Deep Thinking

I have been traveling this week and not able to post. I attended a terrific seminar in San Antonio, TX on emerging technologies, which is a passion for me.

When I travel, I like to take time to read, write (by hand!), and think. I also love people watching which sometimes causes me to do some very deep thinking. As I watch business people on their cell phone; young mothers with small kids, backpacks, etc.; an elderly couple holding hands in the airport...I find myself thinking very deeply about the meaning of life and how we find each other. I marvel at the connections people make and how we recognize each other in a crowd.

Deep Thinking to me is different than meditation. Meditation is focused and concentrated. Deep Thinking is more random. I like to be aware of my thought trains as I observe my surroundings. In San Antonio there is a river walk which is lovely. And some very amazing black birds with an unusual sound that swarmed in the trees above the riverwalk. It was mesmerizing. I found my thinking winding like the river...many subjects, very pleasant, not staying on any one topic for long.

I believe this is a form of rejuvenation and can be very valuable. Not every waking minute needs to be spent in traditional "productive" activities. Sometimes letting the mind "wander" can be creative and refreshing.
