Plan The Work - Work The Plan

Plan the Work, Work the Plan - The Power of ACTION is the 4th Point in the 7 Point Dynamic Transitioning Program. This is not an original statement...in fact, I learned this in Sales Training while at Xerox Corporation.
I like things that work, and this works. What is important in our transitioning journey is that we are not setting goals and attempting to reach them until Point 4. Most personal and professional development programs ask participants to start out by goal setting. Goal setting is a great tool and skill to have, but I maintain that one is not ready for goal setting until the "inner work" is complete.
In other words, there cannot be an "outerworking" until there is an "innerworking". We must know ourselves, create mental pictures of what we want to accomplish, see ourselves achieving those pictures, and THEN set goals and plan the work. What I see happening when goal setting occurs too early in a personal development course is that people set goals that most likely they will not reach. Their intentions are good; they get caught up in the excitement of "Setting Goals" as an end to itself...but cannot live up to these lofty goals because they are not clear on who they are and where they are going.
