Balance

Balance is a popular topic these days...family/work; activity/relaxation, etc. Finding your balance is elusive. Oh, there are plenty of good articles and opinions out there to help you find balance. In the Dynamic Transitioning program we spend time building a foundation that includes "Know Thyself". Part of knowing yourself is defining words like "Balance" - FOR YOU. You also will need to Practice Flexibility, because your definition of balance will change. Here's some good information on work / family balance from Inc. magazine.
I returned last night from Miami to Los Angeles. I was on a business trip with a new client. Miami is a vibrant and alive city - the weather was terrific and my new client is fun to work with. The trip was a quick turnaround - I left on Wednesday and returned late on Friday. Balance includes spending time with my husband. I adore my husband and he adores me and I was so glad to get a big kiss from him last night. We're 'morning people' and so this morning I filled him in on the details of the trip.
Balance, for me, also includes exercise, which I did this morning. I almost said no - I'm too tired. But I know that exercise works out the kinks of travel, and also contributes to my physical, mental, and spiritual balance. So I went to Tae-Bo (kickboxing) and it was a great class. Although I'm tired this afternoon, I'm so glad I went. I'll get a good sleep tonight and visit with friends tomorrow. I'm in balance for today.

Preparation for the UCLA Course

I teach Competitive Marketing and Strategy at UCLA. I love it. 5 years ago I wrote this course and presented it to the Business and Management Division of the Extension and they accepted it. Today it is one of the most popular courses in the Executive Marketing Certificate program. I team teach the class with Karl Kasca, a business associate of mine. Karl owns and operates an incredible Internet research firm called Kasca and Associates. Be sure to click on his link.

We teach the class every other semester and this semester begins on April 5. The course is on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 9:30. This is the first year I'll be blogging on the class, which is exciting.

In terms of Dynamic Transitioning, this falls in Point 6 - Giving Back. I believe in sharing my knowledge with others. And it turns out I'm good at it.

I spend an enormous amount of time in preparation for the class. I believe that one of the things that differientiates the class it that we have a regular flow of Guest Lecturers from various businesses and backgrounds, and Karl and I make the course timely by incorporating the daily business news into the subject matter. Our first speaker will be Sinan Kanatsiz, founder and CEO of KCOMM, a highly successful Internet Marketing and PR firm in Orange County.

CAADE Conference - Mind Body Spirit

I am very honored to be asked to be the Keynote Speaker at this year's California Association of Drug and Alcohol Educators Annual Conference. I will be speaking to approximately 500 professionals about the Dynamic Transitioning 7-Point Program. The theme of the Conference is Mind, Body, Spirit - Treating the Whole Person. I embrace that concept and look forward to talking to this esteemed audience.
I'll be posting about how I prepare for the talk and will look forward to inviting new visitors from the Conference to this site to read and comment on the Program. It is my goal and vision to create a community of like-minded people who visit regularly and participate in personal, professional, and spiritual development.
